Abstract

Seit 50 Jahren ist das nach China bevölkerungsreichste Land der Erde jetzt unabhängig. Ein Rückblick auf diese Zeitspanne ist gleichzeitig ein Streifzug durch die Geschichte der Entwicklungsstrategien – in Indien wurde alles ausprobiert. Der Rückblick zeigt auch, daß die Unabhängigkeit von der Kolonialherrschaft nie die Abhängigkeit von regionalen und internationalen Machtverhältnissen beendete, und daß wesentliche Elemente der vielzitierten Globalisierung älter sind als ihr Ruf.
