Abstract
The paper would identify the major global challenges to teacher education and development and contextualise these for Pacific Island Nations (PINs). In particular issues related to teacher education, recruitment and retentions will be highlighted as well as issues related to the demands made by global educational initiates (such as EFA, DESD) on developing teachers for quality education.
