Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the roles of the Fiji Deaf Table Tennis Club (FDTTC) in the development of deaf athletes. It was found that the FDTTC provided a focal point in the convergence of deaf athletes; providing impetus for the participation and organisation of table tennis activities; and as a consequence, grow adult and young role models to other deaf children and their associates. In addition, the FDTTC helps transmit deaf culture and awareness to the hearing and allowed the integration of deaf table tennis athletes into mainstream sport.
