Abstract

Social media is changing the way citizens in Melanesia are exercising their democratic rights. Cave (2012) suggests that the Pacific’s ICT revolution has the potential to enhance transparency and governance in the Pacific. Logan (2012) focusing on Papua New Guinea discusses the political impact of social media. This proposal seeks to examine how social media is enabling e-democracy in Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The study’s research objectives will be achieved via a survey of tertiary students from these Melanesian countries. It is envisaged that the findings of this study will improve our understanding of how to leverage social media to foster better governance in Melanesia.
