Abstract

MoneyMinded was first introduced as a pilot project in Fiji in 2010 in collaboration with a variety of public, private as well as non-government sector organisations. From 2011to 2013, 3,433 individuals from these organisations as well as a number of ANZ employees participated in the MoneyMinded program to build their financial skills, knowledge and confidence. Results from the survey conducted by the University of the South Pacific to understand the impact of the pilot program reveal that the majority of respondents reported that they feel more satisfied with their life, less stressed about the future and better able to provide for their family. Most respondents report that they now pay their bills on time and save to buy items rather than buy them on credit. MoneyMinded has also generated social benefits which extend beyond the immediate participants. Almost all respondents indicate that through the program, they have learnt from fellow participants, met new people and feel more connected with the community. More importantly, all respondents report that they have encouraged their family members to save after MoneyMinded and shared other aspects of the program with their family and friends.
