Additional Information: | The Oceania Dance Theatre was asked to provide relevant cultural dances, songs and entertainment for the launch of the Pacific American Climate Change Fund (PACAM). ODT invited sister group, Pasifika Voices to join in the presentation. Artistic Director, Peter Rockford Espiritu spear headed the cultural and artistic offering for the event and consulted with Igelese Ete on what PV would contribute to this important launch expediting over 1 Billion dollars of American support into the region. Oceania Dance Theatre together with Pasifika Voices presented excerpts from the hit production MOANA The Rising of the Sea featuring dances and songs from Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu and Dr. Elizabeth Holland presented on the behalf of USP speaking to the serious effects of climate change on the region. Guest of honor was United States Ambassador, Frankie Reed who personally requested ODT for this event. The Oceania Dance Theatre provides entertainment throughout the year for many events. We serve as ambassadors for The University of the South Pacific through our dances and use dance, culture and the arts as an educational tool to promote the excellence of our work to the country and the region. The performances also help to fortify the income of the dancers while generating income to the Oceania Centre. These events also help to support the future needs of the company while increasing the visibility of The University of the South Pacific. Submitted - 3 April 2014 |
