Abstract

The paper analyses the energetic mix currently used to produce electrical energy in two different contexts: the Balearic Islands and the Fiji Islands. Promoting the energetic sustainability, this work examines the availability of renewable energy sources, focusing the attention on sea wave, wind and solar. In this scenario, sea wave represents a new entry as renewable energy source, being currently underdeveloped in spite of the various technologies proposed over time. As a solution, the Department of Energy of the University of Palermo is designing an innovative system able to exploit the sea wave energy potential, independently of wave direction. Thanks to the cooperation of the University of South Pacific, the paper suggests a more sustainable renewable energy mix to supply the Balearic Islands and Fiji Islands.
