Abstract

Teaching practice is a culmination of theory and practice of content pedagogies. Student teachers on teaching practice spend weeks attached to mentor schools to gain firsthand experience of teaching in a real classroom and a school environment under the guidance of Associate Teachers. These teachers not only mentor the students, but they are also expected to make progressive assessment reports for the students. The school-based assessment of student teachers is considered an integral part of their grade at their teacher institutions. The Associate Teachers, therefore, play a significant role in grooming the students to become good teachers. This paper discusses the role of Associate Teachers from the student teachers’ perspectives and experiences.
