The 51st Pacific Islands Forum met in Suva Fiji from 11 to 14 July 2022. This was a particularly significant meeting because it was the first in-person meeting that the Leaders of the Pacific Islands Forum had had since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. The meeting was attended by 12 heads of government or heads of state, two associate members and two special envoys for states whose heads were not available to come. Among the many issues before the Pacific Islands leaders were the Covid-19 fallout and the associated costs, the United States-China regional rivalry and climate change.
