Abstract
This chapter considers contending security narratives in Oceania. Increased external engagement with island states - prompted by the rise of China -is driven by a 'traditional geostrategic view of security', However this engagement is also an opportunity for Pacific states to advance a different security narrative focused on addressing climate change. This chapter explores areas of convergence as well as divergence in thee contending security narratives.
