Abstract

The main sources of energy in Fiji are petroleum products, hydropower and biomass. All petroleum products are imported. They consist of aviation fuel, coal, diesel, greases, industrial diesel oil, kerosene, liquid petroleum gas, lubricating oil, motor spirits, residual oil and other petroleum oils. Total energy demand in Fiji increased by over 20% from 1980 to 2000. This paper presents the energy situation in Fiji with the objective of highlighting the potential for use of renewable energy in the country's efforts to develop sustainably.
