Abstract

While political stability does not guarantee success, it surely impacts on reforms positively. Herein lies the gist of this paper. Based on archival data and a close review of several relevant past studies, most of which are empirical in nature, this paper details and analyses the impact of country politics on reforms. The first goal of this article is to give an account of the overtime political changes and the resultant speed and magnitude of public sector reforms in two Pacific Island nations namely, Fiji and Samoa. The second aim is to analyse the impact of politics on public sector reforms in the said countries. The paper concludes that Fiji needs to realise the importance of political stability if it wishes for timely successful reforms.
