Abstract

A simple, inexpensive and robust system for the electriconic control of feedwter flow to a monotube boiler, as used in a small steam power system, is described. Controlling feedwater flow enables steam pressure and temperature from the boiler to a stem-driven prime mover, such as a steam engine, to be controlled, thereby allowing the boiler energy output and efficiency to be maintained between desired levels. The system uses a stepper motor to control the voltage level supplied to a d.c. motor speed control system which, in turn controls the speed of the feedwater pump. The stepper motor is easily controlled from any microcomputer system, for example, the Advanced Interactive Monitor (AIM 65) or the IBM or Apple personal computers.
