Abstract

This science brief outlines the importance of sustainable sea transport for the Pacific Islands, and outlines the issues and challenges faced by the maritime sector, the lessons learnt from past trials of renewable energy in the Pacific, and identifies the barriers to uptake of sustainable shipping. The brief is intended to provide policy and decision makers an understanding of the issues surrounding sea transport in relation to sustainable development for the Region.
