Abstract
Whether Mexican locals' scene in New York, Chinese opera in Vienna or Nigerian handicrafts in Auckland: Migrants of different backgrounds shape the local structures of globalized metropolises around the world, contributing decisively to the social and economic development of urban spaces. The authors of this book focus on people with a background of migration who have become self-employed. Case studies from different cities such as New York, Medellín, Berlin, Vienna or Auckland illustrate the sociocultural diversity of economic activity in urban areas. They show the urban diversity of migrant offers and services in the areas of creative industries, gastronomy or trade, which are created, developed and actively developed by entrepreneurs and self-employed persons in different national contexts.
