Abstract
Perhaps it is now time for Fiji as a nation to realise competitive sports as not only a form of entertainment but as an industry. Sport is part of the entertainment industry and should be considered to be like any other industry where productive resources are employed for appropriate returns to them. Sport and in particular rugby in Fiji, therefore, should be capitalised as an industry where economic returns can be realised. It is already a multi-million dollar business but there exist huge gaps that could be filled with better management and creativity. The contribution of this sport therefore could double in a short time giving better returns to those who are involved and also help alleviate poverty among the Fijian population. This study examines the management structure of the Fiji Rugby and how local level Rugby is organised. A quantitative economic analysis of rugby’s through employment, income earnings, investments and government spending is analysed. Some policy recommendations will be forwarded from this study.
