Abstract

Thermodynamic parameters such as heats of fusion of perfect crystal of a semicrystalline polymer can be estimated from the Clausius-Clapeyron equation using the pressure dependence of melting temperature dTm/dp. However, polymers that exhibit multiple melting peaks in the heating scan, the dTm/dp of each peak shows different values. Therefore, the origin of each melting peak must be clarified. Poly(ethylene succinate) (PESu) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBSu) show multiple melting peak in isothermally crystallized samples and melting, recrystallization has been proposed to explain the melting behavior. In this study the multiple melting peaks in isothermally crystallized PESu and PBSu samples was investigated using high pressure DTA by suppressing the recrystallization process through increased pressure rather than increased heating rate.
