Abstract
This article aims to discuss the fundamental rules governing offshore oil exploration and production activities resulting from the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III - 1982), and to compare the domestic legislation of some countries such as Norway, the United Kingdom, Brazil and France in order to analyze how they have addressed the challenges and responsibilities resulting from this regulatory framework. This article also intends to critically analyze some judicial decisions of interpretation and application of the national legislations considered in this study.
