Abstract

This paper discusses the need for professional learning for teachers in the area of formative assessment. There is a relative importance placed on formative assessment in classrooms and in teacher education programs, an importance based primarily on accumulated research evidence that formative assessments are helpful in improving student learning. While the need for professional learning intervention in formative assessment is vital in all teaching subject areas, this paper will specifically focus on the professional learning of mathematics teachers.”
