Abstract

This paper discusses the Samoan topography, soil type, climate, farming systems preferred by farm¬ers and crops cultivated. The con¬straints and potential of mechaniza¬tion have been pointed out. Some suggestions have been put forward to encourage the farmers to adopt mechanised cultivation in order to increase agricultural production for both subsistence and commercial farmers. Agricultural mechanisation will gain a positive momentum if, at least, some of the suggested policies are adopted.
